Lord Horror film script, early 1994. After being approached by an agent who wanted to pitch the idea for a Lord Horror film to a well-known film director, David Britton and I co-authored the opening part of a script. It turned out the director wasn’t interested, but the script became the basis for Reverbstrorm, Savoy’s new Lord Horror mini-series, instead

‘The Leopard’, initially ‘Bug Jack Barron: My Fight-Back’, 21st January 2016. For private circulation and revised several times until June 2026. My publishing partner at Savoy Books had nothing to do with New Worlds! This article is my howl about what was happening to me and kickstarted my fight to relaunch myself as an independent practitioner

Letters to the Editor

‘As Much General Interest as Possible’, New Worlds Vol 49 No 158, ed Michael Moorcock, Roberts & Vinter January 1966. Decrying the serialising of novels and making a case for the ‘tale’ in a “new Age of Romance”. First appearance in New Worlds.

sf Impulse Vol 1 No 9, ed Keith Roberts, Roberts & Vinter November 1966. Taking exception to Managing Editor Harry Harrison’s view (sf Impulse #4) that experimental prose a la William Burroughs shouldn’t be foisted on the reading public. Roberts’ snide hostility to my off-the-cuff ‘Beat’ penmanship takes me by surprise.

sf Impulse Vol 1 No 12, ed Keith Roberts, Roberts & Vinter February 1967. Satirical response to Keith Roberts’ treatment of my letter in sf Impulse #9 – written at speed ‘Beat’ style, unedited – Roberts gleefully lampoons my “experimental prose”. I still haven’t realised I am in the enemy camp, the ‘Stuckists’ of the New Wave! I do realise though that I am only digging myself a hole by continuing the correspondence further.

Ludd’s Mill #11, Magazine, Andy Darlington, UK, 1975, calling for better ways of communicating using words and visuals. The first edition of Wordworks appeared that year.

Science Fiction Studies, ed Rob Latham, DePauw University, Indiana, USA, November 2015. Tracing the New Wave of Science Fiction
